Wonderful Things – Blessings in the Wind Skip to main content

Cute, cuddly, pretty, soft….things that make us smile…

One of the songs I love to hear around the holidays is an old classic ‘My Favorite Things’ which was made popular when Maria sang it in ‘The Sound of Music’. It speaks of lots of things that one can think about when otherwise not feeling so great: “When the dog bites, When the bee stings, When I’m feelin’ sad, I simply remember my favorite things, And then I don’t feel…..so bad” are actually great words to live by.

This is much like the scripture in Philippians 4:8 where we are told to think on those things that are true, pure, lovely, and so on. I believe that God knew we would need encouraging from time to time regarding our focus. He knew that we would be facing crisis, tragedy, loss, and other negative happenings that could cause us to become sullen or depressed. It is easy to allow the predominant emotion of the day to overwhelm us sometimes and forget that tomorrow is a new day and that God’s mercy is new every morning. No matter how many times we fail him, God’s love is greater and allows the sun to come up again and again to signal a fresh start.

If you are feeling blue, start making a list of all that you have going right in your life…even if it only seems like a trivial something.

Today, I found a penny on the ground, so I am now one cent richer than I was yesterday! 😊

As you contemplate all the good things you have had happen this year, and all the good that you are looking forward to, may your feelings change to reflect the hope that is new and awaiting you!
